FAR launched mortars & shells at the RPF
The Forces Armées Rwandaises (FAR) continue to bombard Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) positions at the Parliament, Amahoro Stadium and the Meridien Hotel. However, the FAR has made little progress in RPA-controlled territory.
Where is the fighting?
Most fighting and rescue operations occur in the Kigali neighborhoods of Gikondo, Remera, Kicukiro, and Rwandex. By the 7th, the RPA had largely swept across the Nyabarongo River. Additionally, the RPA cut most links between Kigali and Gitarama (the capital of the genocide regime).
Capture of Kanombe
On May 23rd, the neighborhood of Kanombe in eastern Kigali is captured by the RPA. This area contains the important military base of Camp Kanombe. However, it also includes the house of President Habyarimana and the site of his plane crash. While the FAR experienced a significant morale loss, it inspired some Interahamwe to be bolder and even risk death to find and kill Tutsis.

The Genocide against the Tutsi raged on, with the RPA making moderate progress in liberating Kigali from genocide forces.
