St Paul, Kigali

Battles and rescue operations continue

The frontlines are shifting, with the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA) gaining more territory. Kicukiro, Gikondo, parts of Kimihurura and Gisozi are under the control of the RPA. However, there are still minor skirmishes within the liberated territory by plain-clothed Forces Armées Rwandaises (FAR) soldiers and Interahamwe. The RPA’s successful rescue operation of St Paul on June 16/17th.

RPA victory is inevitable

Halfway through June, the RPA’s victory becomes inevitable. Low morale, a lack of reinforcements (both soldiers and military equipment), a loss of control over the Interahamwe, and retreats make the FAR’s defeat an issue of when rather than if.

Liberation Day

On the evening of July 3rd, Camp Kimihururua, Camp Kigali, and Camp Kacyiru are ordered to evacuate during the evening. They flee the city during the night. By roughly 11:00 am, Kigali is liberated by the RPA. RPA’s Bravo and 7th CMF are ordered to follow the retreating FAR.

Maps:

The fighting is intense, and the RPA is continuing rescue operations. Despite the genocide regime’s chances of winning the war becoming slim, its forces used each day to kill Tutsi. The RPA’s victory against the genocide military and its genocidaire forces on July 4th, 1994, is still celebrated today.
